Funeral Services Planned For Grand Rapids Soldier

Grand Rapids, Mich –

Funeral services are planned for Zachary Shanafelt, a 2006 Creston High School graduate who was serving in the U.S. Army.

Patrick Shanafelt, Zachary’s father, posted on his Facebook page word of his son’s death:

“As I’m sure most of you know by now, my son Zachary passed away in his sleep Wednesday morning while serving in the army.”

Further posts described arrangements. Viewings will be Thursday, Nov. 29, from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m., and Friday, Nov. 30, from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. The viewings and a service will all be held at Pederson Funderal Home, 127 N. Monroe Street NE in Rockford.

Services will be with full military honors.

    may the lord be with you in this time of need may he show mercy for Zachary and his family
    we take this time to thank Zacharys family for the sacrifice they both made when they both decided to serve us and our country we couldn't ask someone to make such a sacrifice but zachary answer
    such a call with pride we hope the funeral with full honors shows how much us and our country
    loved and cared for your son
    we will all see zachary again someday sitting by the side of our great lord
