School Bus Stolen, Family Talks

WYOMING, Mich.– A Kent County man is in custody after allegedly damaging multiple school buses and driving one to the east side of the state.

According to the Grand Rapids Police Department, only one suspect, Josiah Curtis, 25, with possible mental issues, was involved and is now in custody.

The Curtis allegedly damaged multiple buses while attempting to drive them. Gaining access to one bus, police say Curtis allegedly decided to drive toward Detroit. The buses involved were stored in a gated area at 36th and Jefferson in Wyoming and belonged to Abney Academy.

While driving through Washtenaw County, deputies spotted a speeding bus, which driven by Curtis, and pulled it over. Deputies then discovered that the Curtis did not have a license and took him back to the station.

After finding that the bus was stolen, the deputies arrested Curtis for receiving stolen property and driving without a license.

Curtis was charged in Washtenaw County for Receiving and concealing stolen property which is a felony. Curtis has not been charged in Kent county, but there is the possibility of vandalism charges because of the damage that he allegedly did to other buses in the lot.

The above mug shot of the suspect, Josiah Curtis, 25, is from the Kent County Jail, relating to a home invasion case on November 1. The charges relating to the home invasion were dismissed.

Curtis is now lodged in the Washtenaw County Jail. His next court date is set for December 14, 2012.
