LANSING, Mich –

Michigan’s Attorney General Bill Schuette filed criminal fraud charges on Monday against the former president of a mortgage records company. Lorraine Brown is accused of filing thousands of false documents here in Michigan.

Brown is the former head of DocX, a mortgage document processing company in Georgia. The company directed its employees to forge signatures on home mortgage documents during the height of the the real estate bubble so they could make money faster. Attorney General Schuette called Brown “greedy.” The office’s investigation found more than 1,000 forged documents filed in counties around the state.

Brown is facing a 20-year felony for racketeering. She has already faced similar charges in Florida and Missouri. The attorney general says he’s making arrangements for Brown to surrender to Michigan authorities and be arraigned on the charges.
