Ryan Kwekel works for Walker City Towing and has been a tow-truck driver for the last 5 years. Ryan’s Sunday started out slow, but shortly after the sleet and snow started to fall, the calls started coming in.
Ryan says anytime we have rain, snow, or fog, he sees more accidents. Walker City Towing has an on call system in place, to bringing in more drivers when they`re needed.
“Our phones are transferred to one person that will answer the phones. If they can`t keep up with the wrecker calls, they call the next guy to come in and start helping out,” Kwekel
Not long after Ryan left the first accident Sunday afternoon, another call for help came in for an accident at I-96 near Alpine. Trey Mitchell-Kuies was driving from Kalamazoo, when he lost control of his car and rolled into a ditch. He says his dad’s not going to be happy, but at least he’s ok.
“Literally, it seemed like there was a line back there somewhere, where it went from wet roads, to straight slush. So, I guess all I can say is drive carefully, because I guess I didn`t drive careful enough, obviously,” Mitchell-Kuies said.
Ryan has some advice if you have to drive on slippery roads.
“If the roads are wet, just to slow down. If you get in an accident, you can move your car off the road into a parking lot or someplace safe, so that you`re not in harm`s way,” Kwekel said.
