GOBLES, Mich. — More than 400 Christmas trees have arrived at Fort Knox, thanks to the efforts of local tree growers.

Wahmhoff Farms Nursery, located in Gobles, coordinated a donation of Christmas trees as part of “Trees for Troops.” Wahmhoff donated trees, in addition to Badger Evergreen Nursery, Korson Tree Farms, Mathisen Tree Farm, Happy Holiday Tree Farm, and some individuals who wanted to get involved.

“Thank you so much to each and every one of you that joined us,” the nursery said to supporters in an email. Last week, volunteers assembled to load up the trees onto trucks for the trip to Fort Knox. They arrived on Dec. 6.

Trees for Troops estimates it will give out 18,000 trees this season.

Earlier this year, the White House recognized the effort as part of “Joining Forces Community Challenge,” which honors people and groups who help military families.
