LANSING, Mich.– Gov. Rick Snyder is requesting a moment of silence Friday, Dec. 21, at 9:30 a.m., for the victims of the Sandy Hook Elementary School shootings.

The request to honor the victims was sent out by Connecticut Gov. Dannel Malloy to all governors across the nation.

“Last week’s unthinkable tragedy in Newtown has left a mark of sadness in the heart of every American,” Snyder said. “My thoughts and prayers continue to go out to the parents, families, friends and community members forever affected by this horrible event.”

The moment of silence will mark one week since the tragic shootings took place, killing 20 students and 6 educators.

Snyder and Malloy not only ask that all communities participate in a nationwide moment of silence, but that places of worship and governmental buildings will ring the bells 26 times during this moment to honor the lives lost of each and every victim.
