TWITTER — Rep. Justin Amash (@justinamash) usually uses his personal Twitter account to post links to articles and comment on politics.

On December 31, he retweeted a remark that compared U.S. Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid with an evil king from Lord of the Rings:

  • “RT‏@DeanClancy Notice how you never see Senator Reid and the Witch-King of Angmar in the same room at the same time.”

J.R.R. Tolkien fans will recognize the Witch-King of Angmar as the leader of the undead Nazgul, the bad guys who chased the hobbit Frodo in The Lord Of The Rings and is defeated in the trilogy’s climactic battle at Minas Tirith.

Dean Clancy, the originator of the tweet, is legislative counsel and vice president, health care policy, of FreedomWorks, an activist organization in Washington with ties to the Tea Party movement but predates that movement by more than 20 years.

The retweet by Amash could be seen as uncharacteristic, as his comments are usually political instead of satirical. The congressman also tweets as @repjustinamash.
