KENT COUNTY, Mich. – The number of flu cases showing up in Kent County hospitals are dramatically increasing.

The Kent County Health Department said there are 242 cases of the flu confirmed from September to December. This number is incredibly high considering there were only six cases of the flu reported last year during the same period.

“This season, 98 percent of the confirmed flu cases are either Type A or Type B strains of Influenza, which are both found in this year’s vaccine,” said Cathy Raevsky, Administrative Health Officer for the KCHD.

Raevsky said it’s not too late to be vaccinated. She said now is a good time considering children will be heading back to school soon.

The Michigan Department of Community Health reported two pediatric deaths in Michigan last month due to the flu.

For those wanting to be vaccinated the KCHD said they have injections for $25. They also have a nasal mist available for $32.
