GRAND RAPIDS, Mich — While light snow led to a handful of minor incidents Thursday morning, only minor accumulations are expected for the rest of the day.

A combination of lake-effect snow showers and a cold front moving through West Michigan led to a quick burst of snow that left a coating on roads around parts of the area, especially northern sections of the lakeshore.  The photo above was taken around 5:00 A.M. along Apple Avenue in Muskegon.

However, those areas of snow didn’t last long in any one location, limiting how much fell during the morning commute.  A lull in the snow as the cold front passed through also made the drive easier for most in West Michigan.  The National Weather Service office in Grand Rapids cancelled the Winter Weather Advisory that had been posted for parts of the lakeshore.

Light lake-effect snow showers redeveloped during the mid-morning hours, but conditions will not be conducive to heavy accumulating snow the rest of the day Thursday.  Still, the fine snow that will fall into the afternoon may still reduce visibility in spots and leave enough of a dusting to continue the possibility of slick country roads in particular.  Accumulations will generally remain under one inch the rest of the day.

Snow showers will continue to gradually diminish into tonight, with some sun returning Friday.  Head to the Weather page for the rest of the 7 Day Forecast, including the possibility of some additional snow over the weekend.
