Car Crash Causes Power Outages in Kalamazoo

KALAMAZOO, Mich. – A one-car crash in the 3900 block of S. Westnedge Avenue caused power outages for residents in early Friday morning.

Kalamazoo Public Safety Officers said around 12:08 a.m. the vehicle drove off the road and hit a utility pole.

The crash caused significant damage to both the vehicle and the utility pole, but there were no injuries to the driver or the passenger.

The driver, a 43-year-old Kalamazoo resident, was arrested for operating while intoxicated and was taken to the Kalamazoo County Jail.

The crash also resulted in area power outages due to the downed power lines, and S. Westnedge Avenue was closed to traffic for more than 5 hours while power crews worked to replace the utility pole and restore power.
