GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – A hearing will be held on Wednesday regarding the lawsuit filed against the Kent County Circuit Court that challenges the recently voted on amendment concerning marijuana.

On Nov. 6, 2012, the city of Grand Rapids approved the City Charter Amendment decriminalizing marijuana by more than a 58 percent majority vote.

The City Charter Amendment decriminalizes marijuana by creating a local civil infraction and prohibiting police offices from reporting state law violations to the Kent County prosecutor.

On Dec. 3, the Kent County Circuit Court entered a temporary restraining order, which prohibits the city of Grand Rapids from implementing the amendment, until the court reaches a decision.

The City of Grand Rapids will comply with the courts ruling and will not implement the City Charter Amendment until further order of the court.
