LAKEVIEW, Mich. — In the spring, there will be a flurry of activity on some unused land at Lakeview Community Schools.

During Monday’s school board meeting, it was announced that 3.7 acres across from Bright Start Elementary and below the water tower will be sold to Crestwood L.L.C for a senior assisted living facility.

“This has been five years in the making and represents a huge market and represents a huge market demand,” Village Manager James Freed explained. “About 25 percent of our population is 65 and older, and right now we don’t offer those types of facilities.”

The selling prices is $45,000, which is about 25 percent above appraised value, school board President Ed Jonaitis said.

The project will be in two phases, with the first part including a 26 bed facility, followed by an unassisted living facility in the future for seniors who just want to live near other seniors.

A groundbreaking for the project is expected to take place in the spring with an operational facility in the fall of 2013.
