GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — Drake Harris is a two-sport star in high school, but he plans on being just a one-sport star in college.

The Grand Rapids Christian star has decided to not to play basketball in college. He has also decided to look at a few more schools now that he has decided to be football-only at the next level.

Harris verbally-committed to Michigan State last summer, in large part because it was a school that offered him the chance to play both football and basketball. Harris called MSU basketball head coach Tom Izzo last night to say that he was no longer interested in playing basketball at the college-level and wanted to focus solely on football.

Harris also told MSU football head coach Mark Dantonio that he would be visiting other schools in the future but that he was still committed to Michigan State. Harris plans on making formal visits to Ohio State and Florida.

Mike Harris, Drake’s father, told FOX 17 that the Michigan State coaches were supportive of Drake and did not waiver in their commitment to him.

As a junior wide receiver in the fall, Harris helped Grand Rapids Christian win a Division 3 state championship. He had 91 receptions for a state-record 2,016 yards and 23 touchdowns. He was named to the MaxPreps 2012 Junior All-American team and was recently listed as the top wide receiver recruit of the 2014 class by Tom Lemming of Prep Football Report.
