GRAND RAPIDS, Mich.- Downtown Grand Rapids continues to see new life.

Plans have now been announced that TowerPinkster, one of Michigan’s leading architecture and engineering firms, will anchor the redevelopment of 4 East Fulton, with new offices in the heart of downtown Grand Rapids.

TowerPinkster will lease the entire second floor (7,488 square feet) of the building, located on the southeastern corner of Fulton Street and Division Avenue. The building, which has been vacant for much of the past 15 years, is owned by Grand Rapids-based Locus Development.

“Bringing new life and new jobs to this building at one of the most prominent and historic intersections represents a major step in downtown’s on-going renaissance ,” said Mayor George Heartwell. “A healthy urban core with investments like those being made by TowerPinkster and Locus is vital to ensuring a vibrant future for this city.”

TowerPinkster is serving as the lead architecture and engineering firm on the project. Pioneer Construction is the general contractor. Grand River Bank is financing the development.

The building was built by Davenport Institute (now Davenport University) in 1949. It was last occupied by Junior Achievement, which relocated in 1998. Since then, it has been vacant except for a handful of special events, including ArtPrize 2011, when it hosted SiteLab’s award-winning installation.

The work at Fulton and Division goes hand in hand with redevelopment at the Old Kendall Building and the remodeled Urban Institute for Contemporary Arts, all of which are located near the intersection.
