GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — The Downtown Development Authority announced Tuesday morning the “blue but better” plan.
This plan involves the big blue bridge downtown Grand Rapids that spans the Grand River between the Grand Valley State University Pew campus and the eastern bank.
Last month the DDA held public meetings about the restoration of the bridge and asked if citizens still liked the signature “blue primer” look and the results proved positive.
The new plan for the Grand Rapids Indiana Railroad bridge includes a fresh coat of the signature blue paint, additional lights under the bridge that will reflect the water, and new ‘color changing’ LED lights that will give the bridge a new look to the downtown area at night.
The city has budgeted $1.3 million for the project.
Officials say they hope to have the project complete by ArtPrize.

I love this idea and wanted to do this a couple of years ago. When i brought up the idea i was told that bridge was going to be torn down. Im curious to know if the lighting job has been assigned to a local business yet.
Thanks,
