VAN BUREN COUNTY, Mich. – Over the last couple of days the snow has forced schools to shut down due to the icy road conditions.
Deputies from the Van Buren County Sheriff’s Office have been busy all afternoon helping people stuck in the snow. They say the number one problem they are responding to is people sliding off the road.
“I was getting kind of disappointed. We were just talking to some friends on the way back about how excited we are to have this snow,” Rodney Dehaan said.
Rodney Dehaan spent Wednesday afternoon sledding with his daughter and son. He says he usually stays home with the kids, but his wife works from home on days like this.
“I don’t go out so much, but my wife, she does. She’s actually stayed home the last couple of days to stay off the highways and stuff like that and working from home. I think the city does a pretty decent job here,” Dehaan said.
While he’s enjoying spending the day with his two kids, he thinks the roads will be cleared by Thursday morning, and he’s kids will be back to school.

Rick Meckleburg mentioned that Allegan County was getting “hammered” with snow. I can vouch for that as a Community Health Mirse traveling the roads in Pullman and Bangor today. It has been a long time since I have seen that much snow coming down that fast. I agree with his assessment that we were/are getting “hammered.”
