WEST MICHIGAN — (FOX 17) — Heavy lake-effect snow is creating hazardous travel conditions in parts of West Michigan. The areas affected are mainly Newaygo, Muskegon, Ottawa, and western Kent Counties. Some areas have received over six inches of snow in just a few hours.

This image from LIVE FOX 17 radar shows that travel to the west of Grand Rapids is going to be slow going for the next several hours. The snow is coming down at the rate of over an inch per hour. Numerous people have reported white-out conditions.

Use extreme caution on U.S. 31 between Holland and Ludington, as well as I-96 between Marne and Muskegon. These roads have been the scene of a lot of accidents lately, and with heavy snow this afternoon, the situation is going downhill quickly.

FOX 17 will continue to keep you updated on this developing weather situation.
