Deadly Christmas Day Shooting Ruled Justified

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – On Christmas day Taneesha Smith admitted to shooting her boyfriend, DeMarcus Weathers.  Weathers died from his injuries. The incident has been ruled as “justified.”

FOX 17 was given a ten page press release regarding the details of this case.

Below is the last paragraph of the press release.

“GIVEN THE FACTS AND CIRCUMSTANCES SURROUND THE DECEMBER 25TH SHOOTING COUPLED WITH MR. WEATHERS’ HISTORY OF ABUSIVE AN ASSAULTIVE BEHAVIOR, MS. SMITH WAS NOT REQUIRED TO RETREAT AND WAS LEGALLY JUSTIFIED IN SHOOTING MR. WEATHERS. EVEN THOUGH THE DECEASED WAS NOT ARMED WITH A WEAPON AT THE TIME HE WAS SHOT, MS. SMITH WAS NONETHELESS IN REASONABLE FEAR OF DEATH OR GREAT BODILY HARM.”

    Finally, one protects themselves and found innocent. Cops can't always be there for us in our time of need and we all need to be able to protect ourselves and not have to worry about becoming the criminal. This wasn't easy for her and the chilren, something they will all have to live with the rest of their lives. Sad all the way around but good for her.

      So now we have the right to decide life in our hands the lady clearly had no evidence of being abused and he wasn't even armed

    You go to prison serve your time and they still hold it against you. If you look it up Mr. Weathers ONLY did time for a carrying a concealed weapon charge, which he didn't even posses at the time he was murdered. If he was so abusive what gives her the right to remain with this man until she decides she'll kill him because all of a sudden she fears for her life. When taken into custody it was only alleged she had NO EVIDENCE of being attacked that night. Sounds like an easy way to sweep it under the rug.
