Michigan is #2 in the newest USA Today/Coaches Poll, but the Wolverines took over the top spot in other national polls.

The Wolverines were previously ranked third in the USA Today Coaches Poll.

Michigan received extra nods this week after beating Illinois on Sunday afternoon in Champaign. Previously first-ranked Duke also lost last week to the University of Miami.

“Our goal at Michigan is to be No. 1 in the Big Ten. When you achieve that honor, you will have a chance at the National Championship,” said U-M Head Coach John Beilein.

“All through the year polls will spark great interest among college basketball fans everywhere and that is always good. Our coaches and players, however, will remain focused on our goals of improving daily and competing for the championship within our conference.”

Michigan State lost to Indiana on Sunday in Bloomington. The Spartans were previously ranked 13th in the USA Today Poll and moved up to 9th in Week 13.

Five Big Ten teams are ranked in this week’s poll.
