Mount Pleasant Teen Makes It To Hollywood On American Idol

LONG BEACH, Calif — A 17-year-old student from Mount Pleasant got a golden ticket on the Wednesday night auditions episode of American Idol.

Shubha Vedula sang “Something’s Got A Hold On Me,” by Christina Aguilera, but originally by Etta James. Although judges Keith Urban and Randy Jackson had a hard time pronouncing her name, they had no trouble agreeing that Shubha should continue to Hollywood. Other judges Mariah Carey and Nicki Minaj weren’t there to see Vedula; Carey appeared after the segment saying she was stuck in traffic, while Minaj had a prior commitment.

Vedula has already set up a Facebook fan page for you to connect with her as she competes on the show.
