GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — A Chicago teenager was arrested Friday after firing shots at a Grand Rapids convenience store that wouldn’t sell him cigarettes at a reduced price.

Tyrell Bernard Harris, 19, of Chicago was arraigned Saturday on one count of assault with intent to do great bodily harm and one count of felony firearms. He is being held at the Kent County Jail on $75,000 cash bond.

At 3 p.m. Friday, Harris allegedly entered Eastern Gas & Grocery at 3260 Eastern Ave. SE. He didn’t have enough money to buy a pack of cigarettes and became upset when the store clerk wouldn’t sell him the cigarettes for 25 cents less than the regular price.

Harris left the store and then fired several shots at the business.

There were no injuries.

The Grand Rapids Police Department used  a canine unit to track and apprehend Harris. Two handguns belonging to him were discovered when his apartment was searched.

The incident remains under investigation by Grand Rapids police.
