The National Weather Service in Grand Rapids has posted a WINTER STORM WATCHfor a large portion of our FOX 17 viewing area. It includes Allegan, Barry, and Eaton Counties northward. The time from is from Thursday morning through Friday morning. Van Buren, Barry, and Eaton Counties are under a WINTER WEATHER ADVISORYfor the same time frame as snowfall amounts are expected to be substantially less across our southern counties.

Snow will develop on Thursday and become heavy at times, especially during the late afternoon and evening. Six inches or more is possible along and north of I96, while lesser amounts are likely across our southern counties as some freezing rain and sleet may mix in. Our morning meteorologist, Jon Shaner, has written a detailed story about this system, including the timing, type of snow, and impacts on West Michigan. Click herefor the story.

Remember, a Winter Storm Watch means there is a potential for significant snow that will impact travel. This will likely be upgraded to a Winter Storm Warning later today or early Thursday. A Winter Weather Advisory means travel conditions will be impacted, but to a much lesser extent. Get more information at www.fox17online.com/weather.
