ROBINSON TOWNSHIP, Mich. – Living on the Grand River’s edge, Lynn Cashmere has been through floods before.

She and her neighbors know when the water starts rising, they need to move their cars to higher ground.  Cashmere keeps a pair of waders with her so she can cross 188th street.

Where the street ends and the river begins is a line that changes by the hour.

Cashmere said she plans to wait out the flood as long as she can, her home is still three feet higher than the flood waters but it’s difficult to tell if the waters will go down soon.

The flood is being caused by an ice jam downstream where the river gets narrow in Grand Haven.

On Thursday, the Ottawa County Emergency Management Service offered sand bags for those that living along the river.

The sand can be picked up during normal business hours at the Grand Haven Department of Public Works, and  The Robinson Township Hall.
