TRAFFIC SHIFT AHEAD

NUNICA, Mich. — Westbound drivers on I-96 will find a lane closure Wednesday at a familiar location.

The lane closure is scheduled to reduce the expressway to one lane from 112th Avenue to the Apple Drive overpass for the day. The 112th Avenue interchange saw a lot of lane closures during the 2012 construction season for replacement of the overpass there and rebuilding ramps.

This year, there will be significant work done on the bridges and ramps in the same area.

The lane closure Wednesday is necessary to allow the placement of concrete barriers in the westbound lanes. Eventually, eastbound traffic will be shifted over to share the westbound lanes.

Expect the speed limit in the construction zone to be reduced to 60 miles per hour at all times and 45 miles per hour when workers are present. However, if there are concrete barriers between traffic and the workers, the speed limit remains 60 miles per hour.
