GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — Lake-effect snow will remain fairly light most of the day Friday, but bands will intensify Friday night into Saturday.

Cold air flowing into the Great Lakes will allow lake-effect snow to develop throughout the day Friday, but some limitations on moisture and cloud development will keep snowfall on the light side until at least Friday afternoon.  Accumulations should remain only an inch or two near the lakeshore by Friday afternoon.

An upper-level disturbance will help snow to become heavier Friday evening.  With winds from the northwest, that snow will fall mostly in areas west of a line from Newaygo to Grand Rapids to Battle Creek, resulting in two to five inches of new snow through Saturday morning.

Snow will continue Saturday and Saturday night, but another disturbance will shift winds more to the north, keeping the heaviest snow along the lakeshore west of a line from Grand Haven to Three Rivers.  Totals in those areas will likely end up in the six- to ten-inch range.

Updates on the forecast will be available throughout the day on FOX 17 News and anytime on the Weather page, where you can also find interactive radar and other resources.
