KALAMAZOO, Mich– Finding a new job has been tough for Steven Sager. He’s currently works in the toy department at Meijer, but is looking for something a little more serious.

“I’ve been looking for something a little bit more permanent. I’m going to college and I’m just working a part-time job right now and I’m looking for something a little more serious to get funds for college,” Steven Sagers said.

He found out about the job fair Saturday morning from a friend.

“I’ve been looking at Craigslist, all the classifieds and everything and I just heard about American Axel booming up again,” Sagers said.

American Axel Manufacturing is looking to hire more than 400 people to fill their plant in Three Rivers. They held a job fair at the Michigan Works in Kalamazoo in hopes of finding plenty of qualified candidates.

“We started this process early in the year and we’re well on track. The response is good and the candidates are out there, so we are happy with the turnout,” Brian McDaniel, AAM Senior Manager of Labor Relations said.

They are looking to hire everything from managers to line workers and they need to have them hired by august.

“We are seeing people who are new to the industry, new to the job market, as well as folks that have experience and are possibly looking for an industry segment change,” McDaniel said.

Steven says he’s open to doing just about anything. He’s just excited about this new potential opportunity.

“Paperwork, line job, secretary, high low, anything that I get offered, I’m willing to do,” Sagers said.

AAM plans on holing more job fairs like the one they had Saturday. They are already working with Michigan Works, to set something up for the next Hire Our Heroes event.
