GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — Significant changes in the weather will take place both Monday and again on Tuesday, creating the potential for difficult driving conditions by Tuesday morning.

Milder air will move in on a southerly breeze Monday, with temperatures climbing into the low 40s for Monday evening.  As wet weather moves in, it will fall as rain through Monday evening.

A strong cold front will slide through the region overnight, changing rain over to snow and dropping temperatures back below freezing by Tuesday morning’s commute.  While there won’t be much snow accumulation through that time, it’s likely that there will already be slippery conditions developing.  The above image shows the rain changing to snow overnight on our FOX 17 Future Track HD computer model.

Snow showers will continue much of the day Tuesday, enhanced by Lake Michigan and blown around by strong westerly winds.  General accumulations of two to five inches are likely for most of West Michigan, with some slightly higher totals near the lakeshore as winds shift and lake-effect snow lingers into Tuesday night.

Driving conditions will deteriorate much of the day Tuesday, then start to improve Wednesday as the snow winds down.  Some additional snow is likely Friday and Saturday.
