SEAN RICHARD BYLSMASIDNEY TOWNSHIP, Mich. –  34-year-old Sean Bylsma is facing charges for fleeing and eluding, resisting and obstructing, driving with a suspended license, transporting open intoxicants in a motor vehicle, and child endangerment after an incident Saturday night.

Montcalm County Sheriff’s Deputies say the Comstock Park man refused to stop when signaled after his 1994 Chevrolet Suburban was observed with heavy front end damage.

Deputies’ investigation revealed that the suspect had hit a tree with his vehicle while he was allowing his four-year old son to sit on his lap and drive unrestrained.

The Bylsma received a minor injury from the crash but the boy was not hurt and turned over to a relative.

A Montcalm County Deputy pursued the suspect after a short pursuit to his mother’s home on South Nevins Road in Sidney Township. At the home, the suspect refused to comply with the Deputy’s orders and a fight started, resulting in the Deputy having minor injuries.

The suspect was taken into custody and lodged at the Montcalm County Jail. Open intoxicants were found inside the vehicle, and the arresting deputy saw the suspect throw an alcoholic beverage from the vehicle prior to stopping. It is believed alcohol was the main contributing factor in this incident.
