GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — While the last week of February will start on a pleasant note, Mother Nature still holds a reminder that winter isn’t quite over yet.

A winter storm will dump several inches of snow across much of the region from Tuesday afternoon into Wednesday.

Monday, however, we’ll see some sunshine once patchy fog dissipates, with light winds and temperatures approaching 40°.  The combination will make for a pleasant start to the work and school week.

The next system will continue to brew in the southern Plains Monday, heading northeastward by Tuesday.  Snow may be mixed with sleet or rain at times as it moves into the region Tuesday afternoon, but snow will be the dominant type of precipitation around West Michigan.

The initial burst of snow will likely be the heaviest with this system, and will likely create a slow Tuesday afternoon commute.  Snow showers will continue with gusty east winds through Tuesday night and much of the day Wednesday with some additional accumulations.

Here is the current map of computer model snow accumulations through late Wednesday — be aware that these numbers are likely to change as the beginning of the snow is more than 24 hours away.
