Gas Prices on the RiseGRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — The roller coaster ride that is local gas prices just hit a psychological ceiling.

After weeks of drifting between $3.39 and 3.69, drivers woke up to $3.99 a gallon Tuesday.

That price is the highest unleaded regular has been for quite a while, and it seems to be a price barrier that gas retailers are loathe to break.

Nothing to fear, however, because it wasn’t long before stations pulled back from the precipice, and as of 11:30 a.m., many were charging less than $3.90 a gallon.

We in Michigan are still paying well above the national gas price average of $3.74.
