OTTAWA COUNTY, Mich. – An Ottawa County man was found guilty in court Friday on child abuse charges.

Ryan Kupres was found guilty of abusing his child, Layla.

In April of 2012, Layla was taken to a Zeeland hospital for vomiting. She was then transferred to Devos Children’s Hospital in Grand Rapids, where she was listed in critical condition, according to the hospital.

Layla’s injuries included head trauma and broken bones. FOX 17 reported shortly after the incident that Layla did recover but was placed in foster care.

Kupres was charged with 1st degree child abuse. He was also found guilty of 2nd degree habitual offender, which stemmed from another child abuse incident that happened back in 2008.

Kupres will be sentenced on April 15 at 10 a.m.
