IONIA, Mich. –State police are handling a homicide investigation after an inmate was attacked at the Bellamy Correctional Facility in Ionia Co.

According to Michigan State Police, the attack occurred Thursday March 7th. The victim is a 56-year-old man who was serving a 20-40 year sentence for a 2001 assault charge.

The suspect is a 40-Year-Old inmate that is serving a 20 to 40-year sentence for armed robbery, kidnapping and felon in possession of a firearm conviction.

He is now expected to face more charges.

The Victims name has not been released.
