BARRY COUNTY, Mich. — Multiple schools were placed on lock down on Friday morning after a Delton man phoned in a threat to the schools.

According to the Barry County Sheriff’s Office they received an anonymous call specifically naming a suspect who was reported as being high and “going to shoot up an elementary school in Barry County.”

Deputies responded to the suspect’s residence and after several hours made contact with a 50-year-old male from the Delton area.

Deputies along with Michigan State Police have detained the suspect until further investigation.

The Sheriff’s Department says as of this time, there is nothing for us to believe he was ever going to carry out the reported act. The sheriff’s department contacted schools in Barry, Kalamazoo and Allegan County to keep them on alert and officers were dispatched to many schools in the area.
