GRAND RAPIDS, Mich- One man has died after a shooting at a birthday party Friday night. Derecko Martin passed away this morning from a gunshot wound. The other man Phillip Williams is still being treated for his injuries at Spectrum Butterworth Hospital.
Prior to the shooting, uninvited guests arrived at the party and started an argument, according to Grand Rapids Police. One of the guests then took out a handgun. The other guests tried to hold the shooter down when shots were fired.
No suspects have been identified in this incident. If anyone has any information please call Silent Observer.

People need to grow up and stop with the stupid choices, find something better to do with their time and this stupid junk wouldn't happen.

This report is a tad off. A cousin held a birthday party for a cousin. It was quite, no one could tell there was even a party being held. The uninvited guest drew a gun when asked to leave.
The man killed, jumped on top of him. Was it stupid that a brother lost his brother at his birthday party? Yes. Is it stupid that three young children and one unborn will now spend the rest of their lives never hearing daddy say "I love you." That his daughters wont have a father to give them away, or encourage them to be the best that they can be? YES, that is stupid. So people are not suppose to celebrate life? Seems like time well spent if you ask me.
It's unfortunate, that someone thought it was a good idea to point a gun at twenty family members. A MAN lost his life protecting those he loved. If he reads this, I want you to think of those children that will grow up fatherless now, and if you have your own children love and hold them as much as possible, because one minute you could be celebrating the life of your brother, and in the next you could be dead.

Maybe the choice of friends could be the problem…….why is everyone killing everyone…..don't be bitching and stop making babies that have the potential of NOT having BOTH parents not be around because of the choices they make….It sounds simple doesn't it!

It is so sad to think that the greatest country on earth cannot offer people a bright future to look forward to rather than living a day-to-day risk of death type of life. It's pathetic when your pride is all about the guns you carry or the number of babies you make. The leadership in this country is failing miseraly from the very top all the way down to the local levels. I wish there was a simple solution.
