Dogs Safe After Being Rescued on the Ice

DECATUR, Mich. – Van Buren County Sheriff’s Deputies were dispatched to the area of Lake of the Woods Public Access after hearing reports that two dogs were stranded on the ice about 50 feet off shore.

The Decatur Hamilton Fire Department was sent to assist with the rescue. The fire department was able to launch an ice rescue device with a fire fighter on it and he was able to safely capture the dogs.

Both dogs were taken to Van Buren County Animal Control in Hartford where they are being held until the owners of the two dogs are located. Charges could be filed because the dogs were at large and not licensed.

Both dogs appear healthy and were not exposed to the open water for a long period of time.
