GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – Road conditions in West Michigan always seem to be a major concern for many drivers.  On Monday morning, some of the top leaders in the state will tour the area in an on-going effort to fix our roads.

The Grand Valley Metropolitan Council is hosting a Street Summit.  The event will be attended by 11 members of the Michigan House and Senate, as well as area mayors, governmental leaders, business officials, Chamber of Commerce leaders, representatives of MDOT and the Governor’s Office. Currently 37 people have committed to attend.

After a few brief opening comments, legislators and community leaders will travel together and tour the region. The focus of the tour will be to study and evaluate existing road conditions along some of our area’s busiest transportation routes. The tour will also demonstrate road conditions on a few commercial corridors where companies depend on quality roads for their employees and to transport products.  Presentations will focus on existing conditions, asset management programs, and system deficiencies as well as recent improvements. Future plans and needs will also be shared with the group.

After the tour, participants will gather for a round-table discussion.
