Tigers Clobber Blue Jays to Take Series

DETROIT, Mich – Doug Fister pitched 8 strong innings and Prince Fielder drove in 4 as the Tigers beat the Blue Jays 11-1 Thursday afternoon at Comerica Park.

Detroit (5-4) chased Toronto (3-6) starting pitcher Josh Johnson in the 2nd inning with 5 runs, Omar Infante drove in a run with a scarifice fly, Austin Jackson and Torri Hunter each followed with RBI singles, Miguel Cabrera delivered a run scoring triple, his first triple since July 2010 and Fielder added an RBI single to give the Tigers a 6-1 lead after 2 innings.

The Tigers added 4 more in the 5th on a 2-run single from Hunter and a 2-run double from Fielder.

Fister (2-0), allowed 1 earned run on 8 hits while walking 1 and striking out 5, he thew 107 pitches.  Al Alburquerque worked a scoreless 9th inning.

The Tigers head to Oakland to open a 3 game series with the 1st place Athletics Friday night, first pitched scheduled for just after 10 P.M..
