Wayland Post Announces New Commanding Officer

MSP Unit parkedWAYLAND, Mich. — The Michigan State Police has announced that Detective Sergeant Thomas Draves will be promoted to First Lieutenant and Commander at the Wayland Post.

According to MSP, the new position will include providing leadership to both the Michigan State Police Sergeants and Troopers assigned to work in Allegan and Barry Counties.

Draves graduated as a member of the 102nd Trooper Recruit School. During his 26 year career, he has spent 11 years as a Trooper at the Rockford Post, and was then promoted to Sergeant at the Hart Post for 8 years. Draves has also been apart of the Executive Protection Section, which is responsible for the protection and security of the Governor, Lieutenant Governor, and their families.

The new Commander was even selected as a presenter at the International Special Weapons and Tactics symposium in Maryland and later was part of the mobilization for Hurricane Katrina where he was in charge of a joint search and rescue mission.

MSP said Draves brings plenty of experience and leadership to his new position as the new Post Commander of Wayland.
