LANSING, Mich — Governor Snyder declared this week Michigan State Police History Week, to celebrate the 96th anniversary of MSP.

MSP began during World War I, as a temporary, wartime emergency force to help with domestic security. There were five troops in the original force.

“What started as a small cavalry of men has evolved into a complex, professional law enforcement agency responsible for not only general police investigative services and traffic patrol, but also forensic science services, statewide criminal justice records management and state homeland security and emergency management,” said Col. Kriste Kibbey Etue, MSP director.

Etue said this week is one for both reflection on the history and traditions of MSP, as well as re-commitment to serving the public.
