WYOMING, Mich. – Roughly 100 people living in the neighborhoods around Division and 54th street in Wyoming were told they should evacuate their homes due to flooding concerns.

The flood waters were magnified when the power was turned off Thursday afternoon as water levels continued to rise, sump pumps were taken out of commission due to no power.

A spokesperson with Consumer’s Energy told FOX 17 they turned off the power to about 100 homes sighting the standing flood waters would put people at risk of electrocution.

Without power, many people elected to go out any buy generators to keep their basements dry.

Wyoming Police used an “ARGO”, a vehicle with tank-like wheels that can also float and get places other vehicles cannot, to drive the flooded streets looking to help.

Police used the machine to get to stranded residents and offer them a way to get to high ground.
