Shelters Opening Across West Michigan

NEWS RELEASE FROM THE RED CROSS:

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich., April 18, 2013 – The Red Cross of West Michigan is working to open shelters throughout the region for those who have been affected by flooding. The Red Cross plans to open shelters at the following locations:

KENT COUNTY
Kentwood Activities Center, Open
355 48th St. SE; Grand Rapids

Second shelter expected to open in the area of Alpine & 7 Mile NW around 2 p.m.

IONIA COUNTY
Ionia Armory Community Center, Opening at 1 p.m.
439 W. Main St.; Ionia

NEWAYGO COUNTY
TrueNorth Community Services, Open
6308 S. Warner Ave.; Fremont

These shelters will help residents who have been forced out of their homes because of flooding by offering a safe and warm place to stay. The Red Cross is in communication with emergency management to see where any additional shelters may be necessary. Those seeking shelter are encouraged to bring the following items if possible: appropriate bedding and blankets and pillows, prescription medications, personal hygiene items, a change of clothes, and any necessary items for infants or the elderly. • Appropriate bedding, blankets and pillow

If residents need assistance with evacuation, they are encouraged to call 9-1-1.
