NORTON SHORES, Mich. — Norton Shores police took to the skies in the Michigan State Police helicopter Monday to broaden the search for a Norton Shores mother.

Jessica Heeringa, 25, was abducted from the Exxon Mobil gas station on April 26 between 10:50 and 11:15 p.m., according to investigators. Heeringa was just finishing her shift as a clerk. She was working alone.

The gas station didn’t have security cameras in it Friday night, a situation that owner Fred Ciereman has been talked to about before.

“We’ve had discussions about cameras in the past,” Norton Shores Police Chief Dan Shaw says. “Obviously, we cannot dictate what people put into their stores, but it was a suggestion from a crime prevention standpoint.”

“The cameras are not going to prevent something like this from happening, but it will give us evidence to follow up on a case, obviously.”

FOX 17 was in the store on Monday and counted at least six cameras that have now been installed.

Investigators are looking for a silver minivan in connection with the abduction. Witnesses saw the vehicle in and around the parking lot near the time of the abduction.

The driver of the van is described as a white male between 30 and 40 years old, medium to heavy build, broad shoulders, and light brown or sandy blonde hair.
