BATTLE CREEK, Mich. — The city of Battle Creek on Friday night issued a Boil Water Advisory due to the amount of water used to fight the Cereal City Recycling fire.

Waterworks System Operator Perry Hart said residents living in three areas should boil all water before using it for consumption because a portion of the city’s water system had dropped to below acceptable pressures due to the fire on Beadle Lake Road. Whenever a municipal water system’s pressure falls below safe operating levels, the potential for bacteria to enter the system exists.

The three areas under the Boil Water Advisory include the following:

* Golden Avenue from Goldenview Drive/Auburn Street to Beadle Lake Road.

* Main Street from Golden Avenue to the Kalamazoo River.

* Beadle Lake Road from D Drive North to the Kalamazoo River.

The city plans to inform the media when tests show no bacteria and residents no longer need to boil their water.
