WAYLAND, Mich. — The Gun Lake Tribe and Gun Lake Casino announced the results of a successful collaboration with Comprenew Electronics to remove electronic waste from local landfills and prevent environmental pollution.  The Tribe and Casino hosted electronic recycling events April 22-26 at the tribal offices and the Casino.  The five-day event netted 52,000 pounds of electronic waste for safe disposal.

Fifty-two thousand pounds of electronic waste has never been collected by Comprenew at past events.  This unprecedented recycling effort was held in celebration of Earth Day 2013.  Some of the items that were dropped off by area residents include CRT computer monitors, computers, cell phones, TVs, and microwaves.

Electronic waste continues to be a growing concern to our environment.  If the 52,000 pounds of electronic waste were disposed in our local landfills, harmful toxins could leach into our soil and water resources.  Electronic waste collection allows Comprenewto provide jobs and training opportunities within the greater Grand Rapids area.  Comprenew does not ship e-waste overseas, and has a zero-landfill policy that requires all e-waste received to be recycled, refurbished or reused.
