BANGOR TOWNSHIP, Mich. – A complaint about possible child neglect has resulted in a parolee being arrested, accused of trying to grab a sheriff deputy’s firearm.

According to the Van Buren County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were called to a home in Bangor Township on Thursday evening to assist Child Protective Services in relation to a possible case of child neglect.

One of the individuals who lives at the home was identified as Toby Farley, who had a warrant out for his arrest as a parole absconder.  Upon seeing police arrive, Farley ran into a swampy, wooded area.  Officers gave chase and were able to catch him, but they say Farley struggled.  As he was being escorted to a police cruiser, the suspect tried to grab a deputy’s handgun from its holster.  Officers were able to prevent him from removing the firearm and restrained him.  He now faces charges of Parole Absconder, Resisting Arrest, and Attempted Disarming of a Police Officer.

This is not the first time Farley has seen these types of charges.  In 2006, he was charged and convicted of disarming a Michigan State Police Trooper, who shot Farley in the incident.  He was paroled on this charge, and several other felony counts, just months ago.
