bikersGRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — In celebration of National Bike Month, the Greater Grand Rapids Bicycle Coalition wants West Michigan Drivers to ditch their cars once a week.

It’s part of the Active Commute Week Challenge that starts today to encourage drivers to ride a bike to work.

The event is meant to shed light on the health benefits of active transportation, such as biking, walking to a bus stop, and rollerblading.

On Friday, 15 pit stops will be set up throughout Grand Rapids. People on their bicycles will get free snacks, drinks, and other giveaways from 7 a.m. until 9 a.m.

The Greater Grand Rapids Bicycle Coalition and area businesses and colleges joined forces for Active Commute Week, and activities are planned for the entire week, including a celebration on Friday evening that is free and open to the public.
