WEST MICHIGAN – While the weekend was perfect for people wanting to get outside and get things done…like gardening, the Great Lakes Kite Festival in Grand Haven, or taking in a double-header at Fifth Third ballpark, you couldn’t beat it!

Temperatures on Sunday across the area made the low/mid 80s with any active weather occurring well off to our west in Minnesota and Iowa. There were 22 reports of tornadoes on Saturday across the Plains as a low pressure area slowly makes its way toward the Great Lakes. The Storm Prediction Center has placed all of West Michigan in a slight risk for the possibility of severe storms on Monday and Tuesday as the low approaches and a front meanders overhead.

The primary threats would be large hail and strong damaging winds, although an isolated tornado or two certainly cannot be ruled out. This would be the first real bout with severe weather this season if we see any. Another possibility with the unsettled, active weather will be localized flooding from what meteorologists refer to as training thunderstorms. These are storms travelling over the same area again and again. Storms are likely from Monday afternoon all the way through Wednesday (off and on), with a few lingering showers still possible Thursday. Get the forecast at www.fox17online.com/weather.
