(WEST MICHIGAN) — (FOX 17) Showers are moving through the area this afternoon creating conditions that make small brief landspout spin-ups possible. These landspouts are similar to waterspouts in that they are very weak “tornadic-looking” features. While they look very similar to tornadoes they are in fact created in a different conditions from the typical super-cellular tornadoes. These landspouts are very weak, short-lived and usually do not cause any damage.
Although these landspouts look very similar to tornadoes, they are not capable of creating damage similar to a typical super-cell tornado and most of the time the National Weather Service will not even issue warnings for them. However, if you feel like you are in danger take shelter.
