CALEDONIA TWP., Mich.- Michigan State Police say 23-year-old Ryan Boyd of Middleville and 24-year-old Matthew Dundas from Middleville are dead after a crash on Saturday night.

It happened just after 6:15pm on M-37, south of 100th street. Michigan State Police say Boyd was going south and trying to pass another car when he lost control. Troopers say a Chevy Truck driven by a man from Middleville coming from the other way, hit Boyd’s car head-on.

Both Boyd and his passenger, Matthew Dundas of Middleville died from the crash. Troopers say both men were wearing seatbelts at the time. The driver of the pick-up, his passenger and a 6 month old baby in the vehicle were all taken to the hospital and released.

Michigan State Police are still investigating.

Both Dundas and Boyd graduated from Thornapple Kellogg High School back in 2008. They’ve been friends ever since and those who knew the guys say they`ll never forget the impact they left on their own lives.

“Lifes too short it can be taken away at anytime even passing a vehicle” said Dave VanHeck. Vanheck worked with both Boyd and Dundas and has been friends with them for years. “They were just so laid back and it’s just so un-real.”

As soon as he heard what happened Vanheck came to the high school to post signs, since people have stopped by to burn a candle. A small way to remember two young men who lived life to the fullest.

Dundas was going to Grand Valley State University, aspiring to go into the medical field, Boyd was interested in police forensics.

Matt’s dad Andy Dundas said “Ill miss most about Matt is the commodity that we had as a father son, bantering back and forth never dis-respectful, that will always leave a hole in my heart that will never be completely filled. I’ll miss his smile and I’ll miss his attitude about life, he uplifted everybody around him.”

“Ryan always had a smile on his face that never went away, never” said Vanheck. Both guys always smiling, leaving a lasting impression on those who knew them, “love the people who you’re around cause you never know when your’e never going to see them again.”

Friends of Boyd and Dundas say they will be holding a candlelight vigil at the high school on Monday at 9pm.
