MIDDLEVILLE, Mich. — The home bleachers at Thornapple Kellogg High School’s football field became a vigil site Monday night as a community came together to remember two alumni killed in a crash on M-37 on Saturday.
Hundreds gathered around 9:00 p.m. to light candles, release lanterns, and share memories at the high school where Ryan Boyd, 23, and Matthew Dundas, 24, graduated from in 2008.
The two were killed Saturday when Boyd tried to pass a car on M-37 south of 100th Street. He lost control and hit another truck head on. Dundas was in the passenger seat of Boyd’s car.
FOX 17 found an unaired interview with Dundas in computer archives from a May 19 story on boat safety in Grand Haven. In the interview, Dundas talked about his excitement to be out on the water this summer.
Close friends say Dundas and Boyd both exuded that happiness every day, which is why so many people wanted to gather to remember them Monday.
